Tips on Performing

Rehearsal

  • Choose a place free from distraction.
  • Get with your Acting/Singing partner and make a schedule for your rehearsal times. This will avoid trying to cram the rehearsal in the night before districts/State.
  • Be responsible; If you say that you are going to rehearse, then do it! It should become the most important thing.
  • Try to remain focused and to not get off track of the task at hand.
  • Remember that you should just not keep running the scene over and over again, because it will get old to you and the reactions and discoveries that take place in the scene will not be genuine. Instead; you should play different games, or do improves with each other as the actual characters.
  • Passably one of the most important thing is to remember never to argue, let everyone speak their mind one at a time and then discuss.
The Performance

  • The most important thing to do is NOT STRESS. If you do, I can assure you the performance will not be as good as its potential.
  • Sing, Speak, and Act that performance to your acting partner as if it is the first time you have done so. Have discoveries, make every word in the piece come to you as if it is the first time you have heard it or spoke it. Make it new!
  • Go in positive, always! If you are a even a bit negative, I promise the adjudicators will notice.
  • Always end positive and optimistic as well. Even if you know you messed up during the piece, go out holding your head up high. You never know, maybe the adjudicators didn't even notice!
  • Be careful about being overly confident. This can cause problems as well. It is okay to know for your self that you are good, but some people may tend to think that you are pompous and it can alter their decisions about you.
  • Most importantly... HAVE FUN!!! That is what State is all about!
